Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Communication Center Student Worker
DEPARTMENT: Tutoring and Learning Center
REPORTS TO: Coordinator, Academic Intervention
Application Deadline: Open Until Center

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Professionally represent Joliet Junior College and uphold the College’s core values: respect, inclusion, integrity, collaboration, humor, well-being, innovation, quality, and sustainability.
2. Engage in extensive phone work (1) to guide prospective, new, and former students through the enrollment process, (2) in response to academic intervention, and (3) as a service to various Joliet Junior College programs and departments as arranged by the Academic Intervention Coordinator
3. Provide excellent student support by building rapport, listening attentively, defusing escalated concerns, confirming understanding, and connecting students with appropriate follow-up services.
4. Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential records of outreach attempts and outcomes within specified Academic Intervention software.
5. Prepare and organize various reports, survey results, records, and files.
6. Document complaints, inquiries, and other concerns, and propose solutions to promote a culture of continuous quality improvement.
7. Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and trainings as may be required.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Must have completed one semester of college-level courses with minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
3. Previous customer service experience
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
5. Attentiveness to detail, strong organizational skills, initiative, and multitasking ability
6. Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism, discretion, and impartiality
7. Ability to work with minimum supervision in a busy environment
8. Ability to do repetitive tasks accurately over long periods of time
9. Working knowledge of MS Office software and spreadsheets

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS.
1. Ability to work in the Communication Center for at least one full academic year.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Normal office physical demands.

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment.

WORK SCHEDULE
• Varies by semester – several student workers hired each semester
