POSITION TITLE: ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR (specialty: Reference and Instructional Librarian )
STATUS: Part time
DEPARTMENT: Library
DIVISION: Academic Affairs
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Department Chair
PLACEMENT: Faculty
MINIMUM PAY RATE: $35.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY

An adjunct community college Reference Librarian is hired to work as a faculty member on the Reference Desk, teach Library Instruction Sessions and complete additional project work as assigned by the Library Chairperson. The adjunct Reference Librarian reports to the Department Chair. The adjunct Reference Librarian provides quality instruction for the assigned courses. The adjunct Librarian works with full-time faculty in assessing student research needs and providing research and other instructional assistance. The adjunct instructor reports to the Department Chair, provides quality instruction for the assigned courses. The instructor works with full-time faculty in assessing students and following all course guidelines.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serve student, staff and public as Faculty contact at Reference Desk.
2. Teach Library Instruction Sessions, information literacy courses and special training sessions.
3. Assist students, faculty members, staff and other library patrons in locating information and resources.
4. Provide technical assistance to patrons regarding accurate citation of resources.
5. Instruct patrons in the use of library resources.
6. Effectively communicate with appropriate staff and chair.
7. Assist in the creation of reference or research support materials or services in response to student needs.
8. Work with full-time faculty in collection maintenance activities.
9. Comply with all legal and ethical obligations, including FERPA, ADA, and other regulatory legislations. Communicate discrepancies to appropriate officials.
10. Commit to furthering the mission, goals, and core values of the college at all times.
11. Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program.
2. Expertise in appropriate technologies for instruction.
3. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Reference and Instruction experience at the collegiate level.
2. Experience at the community college level.
3. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
4. Experience with using course management programs.
5. Experience in Library Instruction Sessions and public presentations.
6. Experience with advanced search and reference database techniques.
